Washington State Library's collection of a portrait pencil drawing of L.D. McArdle and the acquisition papers for the L.D. McArdle Memorial LIbrary of Northwest Americana, 1939-1940.

This collection consists of a framed portrait of L.D. McArdle and the papers for the acquisition of his collection of books, scrapbooks, etc. The portrait is a pencil drawing of McArdle that is signed Burford, 1940. The portrait size is 13 in. (31 cm.) x 8.75 in. (22 cm.). It is matted and framed with an overall size of 22 in. (55cm.) x 17 in. (33 cm.). The portrait was a gift of Richard Burford in 1940. The portrait has a label on the back that states: "This is a picture of L.D. McArdle who collected the books which comprise the L.D. McArdle collection known as the Golden Jubilee Project of the D.P.W. and the L.D. McArdle Memorial Library of North West [sic] Americana." The papers consist of correspondence, newspaper clippings and reports concerning the acquisition and processing of the collection.

Maud P. Mitchell was born about 1883 in Oregon. She married Chas. R. Mitchell and by 1920 they were living in Chehalis, WA. Charles was an assistant cashier at the bank.
